In preparation for the IPL 2021, Virat Kohli will step down as captain of his franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, after the tournament’s end. The captain’s cap will be given over to Faf du Plessis, who was acquired by the club for INR 7 crore. On March 12, RCB announced the appointment of Faf du Plessis as their new captain, replacing the former Proteas captain.

In his role as captain of the team, Faf will have a difficult task ahead of him, as the RCB side continues to chase the IPL title. After winning three IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings, the 37-year-old will have to put all of his skills and qualities to use as both a country’s and a franchise’s captain when he takes over as RCB’s skipper.

Kohli recently shared his opinions on Faf becoming the new team captain, stating that ‘he commands a great deal of respect’ from his teammates. Following this, in a video posted on the IPL website, Faf is shown engaging in conversation about his upcoming contract with the franchise.

When questioned about the additional obligations that come with being the captain of an IPL team, he responded, “There’s always an expectation that you want to strive and perform as well as you possibly can.” Because of that, there’s an element of increased duty – some may even say it’s a little bit of added pressure – but fortunately for me, I’ve been around for quite a while – both internationally and in the IPL – so I have the expertise that comes with that.”

When asked about Virat Kohli, his leadership abilities, and working with the team, Faf stated that he considers himself fortunate because the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a good leadership group on their side. For a very long time, Virat has been the captain of his country’s national team. While praising Kohli, he added, “He’s been a tremendous leader for Indian cricket and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and his experience, wisdom, and understanding that comes from that is second to none.”

His fellow teammates, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik, were also lauded, and he stated that he would be pulling them as close as possible to ensure that he could utilise their leadership talents to lead RCB to victory.
